 Logged Out Of Forum [SOLVED]
#

I am being logged out of my forum every time I close my browser. I have cookies enabled, and it's happening in Google Chrome, Firefox, Pale Moon, and Microsoft Edge. I've tested it on several other computers, and they do the same thing.

This is what it looks like when I'm logged in, which seems normal to me:

https://s26.postimg.cc/b8psq036x/Forum_Logg...arscape_BBS.jpg

Here's what happens: I will close my browser. When I open it back up and navigate to either www.starscapebbs.com or http://starscapebbs.jcink.net, I see this:

https://s26.postimg.cc/m378rr6tl/Forum_Logg...arscape_BBS.jpg

It doesn't matter what theme I've chosen, it always defaults back to this, and you can see there is no login or registration option. I had to enable my Quick Login from the ACP just so I could log in without having to try and post something before it would tell me I was logged out and needed to log in.

I've flushed my DNS, cleared all of my cookies, uninstalled Firefox, Chrome, and Pale Moon, deleted their profiles, wiped the slate clean and reinstalled everything, logged back in, closed the browser, and when I navigated to my site, it had done it again.

I can go from site to site just fine, and I can go back and it will still be logged in, but the moment I close my browser, I'm logged out and I get the image you see in the link above. I don't know what's causing it. It only happened after I added a "Default Avatar" macro last night, but I followed the instructions to the letter, and I don't see how that could even affect anything anyway.

One more thing: I did take screenshots of the logout URL and the login URL, but I don't know if there's anything sensitive in that key and code data, so if you ask, I can PM them to you, if that makes a difference. If not, ignore it.

I'm sorry that I keep running into issues, I try not to bother you guys, but I've tried six dozen ways of getting at the problem, and haven't figured out what has gone wrong yet. Your help would be terrific.

I see a major problem with the default avatar script/setting here.

CODE
user_avatar = "<img src="http://files.jcink.net/uploads/starscapebbs/default_avatar.jpg">"</script>;

This is causing a problem. Did you use the default avatar macro to add that, or is that just straight in the wrappers? If you did use the macro, change the double quotes to single quotes in the image tag. It's breaking all of the javascript, which may be contributing to this, but we should try to solve this first. Also move the semicolin before the </script>

Also keep in mind while testing this that if you are logged in on http://starscapebbs.jcink.net/ you won't be logged in on http://starscapebbs.com -- cross domain logins aren't supported by web browsers, but I think you mentioned you tried either url and it was still showing that.

That fixed it. I swear, this is what I get for trying to add these things at 4 in the morning. I didn't know that double quotes are treated differently than single quotes. That's my fault, but I would have missed that for ages.

Thank you, John.

No problem. In JavaScript and many other programming languages, you do have to be really careful because it uses the quotes to figure out the start and end of the string. But it's cool, I'm glad you got it solved. The issue of the default avatar causing this as well is also easy to run into on Alpha Plus; on other skins that don't do it the way the creator wrote it in this problem isn't even an issue actually. But AP is a nice skin, so, yeah. http://files.b1.jcink.com/html/emoticons/tongue.gif

Anyway I'll mark this solved now.

Thank you, and yeah, I keep sticking with AP because it looks so good, and was so close to what our old board looked like, it was too good to be true. http://files.b1.jcink.com/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif

So I'll be more careful in the future, and thanks again.
