 Alerts JSON

So I was reading the wiki for Alerts and found the section with JSON and it says:

...a JSON encoded output as an object is available at index.php?recent_alerts=1&js=1

I assume this is the index from my own site? If I type it in, I just get a blank page. Is it not possible anymore to see it?
You get a blank page because there are no new alerts to show. The json output is for the new alerts only.
